One woman ended up thinking that she was going to choke on what appeared to be a cold.
Jo Daniels, 42, did not feel well for a few days, but her condition deteriorated quickly, causing bleeding eyes and mouth.
She was also afraid of dying by swallowing pieces of her mouth after pieces began to fall.
Her GP thinking that she had measles, gave her antibiotics and told her to come back. But then she started having clots in her nose and eyes.
Jo said, "I was convinced that I was going to die. The symptoms were horrible and nothing like what I had heard before.

"It was like having severe burns all over my mouth, nose, and eyes, and I was in constant pain, unable to eat or drink anything other than small amounts of water.
"At worst, some parts of my face were starting to fall and I remember that one day I found a big piece of something in my mouth – then I realized it was a bit inside the cheek. It was as if I had leprosy.
"I knew it was not measles, though. At this point, my symptoms were so severe that I had to swallow clots of blood that accumulated in my nose and I was constantly spitting blood. "
Stevens-Johnson syndrome was diagnosed in the mother of a child from Llanelli, in Carmarthenshire.
It is a disorder described as a problem affecting the skin, mucous membranes, bads and eyes.

Doctors think that she has contracted an infection and that her immune system has reacted violently, bringing her with skin lesions.

She said, "I could not leave home or do anything at all because I could not see.

Jo said, "As the skin started to dry out, large pieces began to settle on my lips and in my mouth. It was horrible. & # 39;
She has largely recovered but suffers from other side effects.

Jo said, "My vision is now very bad because of the wounds that were in my eyes. But more than anything, I feel that I have completely lost confidence in myself and my appearance.
"I was a very sociable person, but I was made agoraphobic – that is, I do not want to leave home – because of this terrible disease.
"[Stevens-Johnson syndrome] is so rare that there is very little information about it.
"Even health professionals can not really talk to me at all and I feel like I can not sleep as long as nobody can give me answers and let me know that it will never happen again. "
Despite the heavy toll that illness has caused her, Jo is determined to regain the life she had before falling ill.
"The disease has stolen all this year and may well take more," she said.
"But I must remain determined to beat him. It's like going to hell – but I have to believe that I'll get out of the other end. "
