Official figures show that women screened for cervical cancer screening are at their lowest for 21 years

[ad_1]

Official figures show that the proportion of women attending cervical cancer screening has reached its lowest level in 21 years, while experts warn that the disease is on the rise.

According to NHS figures for England, only 3.18 million women were tested in 2017-2018, or 71.4% of the 4.46 million women who were asked to have a Pap smear, against 73.7% in 2011.

The test is down for the fourth year in a row. The number of cervical cancers diagnosed in England has increased from 2,528 in 2015 to 2,594 in 2016.

Nearly 50,000 women were not invited to screenings or results in 2018 because of the failures of the private Capita, to which the NHS had allocated screening in 2015.

Charities have warned that it was the last of the obstacles to auditing, including appointments in clinics that were causing problems due to the overload of a generalist's services , the reduction of badual health services and the lack of awareness.

A significant increase in cervical cancer screening was last seen in 2009-2010 and was dubbed "Jade Goody Effect" after the 27-year-old reality star announced she was terminally ill and had died shortly thereafter.

The test can help detect abnormalities in cells that may become cancer and ensure that they are treated early.

"At a time when we should make testing easier, it's getting harder and harder to access.
