It is generally believed that San Junipero is one of the best episodes of Charlie Brooker's hit Black Mirror TV series.
The episode in question is probably the most optimistic because it explores an incredible city that can be inhabited even after death. It's really a "heaven on earth" place, and the episode itself is a beautiful story of love from start to finish.
He has won two Emmys and consistently leads the favorite episodes of Black Mirror fans.
But this was almost not the case! And all this was due to the Westworld TV show.
Brooker felt that the concept as a whole was too similar to that of the science fiction world of Westworld, which almost resulted in the removal of the episode.
According to Vulture, Brooker spoke of the thought process behind the concept of this episode, stating, "I was obsessed with the story of life after death.
"I wanted to make some kind of supernatural story and I was thinking of scary story ideas, so it was strange that" San Junipero "started in some kind of horror film world.
"We always have a scientific explanation for things, even if they're bullshit!"
"We introduced the idea of digital consciousness into" White Christmas, "but we had not really explored the moral or emotional implications – there was so much untapped potential."
He elaborates: "Another thing we had discussed was a way to expand the world of (a season 2 episode with Domhnall Gleeson)," Be Right Back. "We could not do it now because of Westworld, but we got the idea of a theme park you went to that was mostly from the sky. "
"All of your deceased relatives and friends would be here and you would pay to visit them," Brooker added of his idea of "San Junipero", similar to Westworld. "So this thought stayed for a moment – this notion of paradise to which you go on vacation."
We are delighted that this episode has been on our television screens because it is absolutely amazing.
The fifth season of Black Mirror is expected to be released soon, although there is no confirmed release date yet.
