Cell phone maker OnePlus and automaker McLaren have announced a technical partnership and announced a new announcement for December.

The most likely result is a McLaren OnePlus, perhaps a OnePlus 6T special edition, because the press release highlights the previous OnePlus collaborations with brands that resulted in limited edition devices.

Car phones

OnePlus is not the first phone maker to be badociated with a company in the auto sector. BlackBerry, and more recently Huawei, have produced a number of Porsche Design handsets, while Chinese company Oppo has its own collaboration with Lamborghini.

These special edition phones tend to carry the automaker's logo on the body, come pre-loaded with a custom theme that closely follows the on-screen car design language, and – more recently – offer additional features such as more storage or – view fingerprint scanners, not to mention inflated price tags.

This would be a long-term technology partnership, which means we could participate in a number of McLaren branded handsets. All will be unveiled on December 11th.
