A man died and a Garda was injured in a collision at Co Monaghan.
Gardaí said that the man was walking down West Street in Castleblayney around midnight when he was hit by a car.
A Garda who was also injured in the incident was rushed to the hospital.
The driver of the car has been arrested and is currently at the Carrickmacross Garda station.
The road was closed for a technical examination and the office of the state pathologist was notified.
