Relay For Life is a community fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. Each year, more than 3,500 Relay For Life events take place in more than 20 countries.

"The fight against cancer is real," Organizer Connie Mattingly told the crowd at the start of the event. "Never give up hope."

Heather Robinson of 31 Gifts came to sell items and help a colleague.

"A lady from our office, Kate Rose, has been diagnosed with bad cancer, she is loved by all of us," said Robinson

Like many people who participate in the Relay for life, she lost loved ones to the disease. "My grandfather and aunt both died of cancer."

T-shirts, balloons, sticks of spiritism and d & rsquo; Other purple colored items were shown to toddlers. #KHR "for Rose printed on them.

This marked the 19th year for the event in Morrow County and the fourth year in the church. A silent auction was held and a ham dinner was offered to the survivors.

Greg Mooney told his story of having beaten cancer.

"I was blind. But adversity strengthens and softens us, "Mooney says.

As the most successful fundraiser of the American Cancer Society and organization event, Relay For Life's mission is fundraising to improve cancer survivorship and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers
