"I would say things" When I die, I want to become a star, "said Emilie Matthias. He said, "I want to be burned like Thor and then I want to become a gorilla. "

Both began recording Garrett's comments, and in June they found that Garrett's tumors were resistant to treatment and that he was suffering from severe headaches and back pain. had surrounded the lining of his brain and prevented the regulation of cerebrospinal fluid.

The doctors told Garrett's parents that his cancer was terminal.

It was then that Emilie and Ryan Matthias decided that they did not want Garrett to make a normal burial, without inflatable houses.

This same desire resulted in Garrett's obituary. ask him questions similar to those of a questionnaire on obtaining knowledge.

"We really tried to use his words, and the way he spoke," said Emilie Matthias. "Garrett was a very unique individual, but I do not especially not that his obituary is ordinary and that the funeral is really sad … We have cried oceans of tears in the past nine months. "

a breathtaking obituary in which Garrett describes things that He hates (pants) and what he wants to do when he dies (turn into a gorilla and throw "poop" at his father).

Obituary is as bold and frank about Garrett's horrible treatments, something his mother said he wanted to include

When Garrett was diagnosed, the doctors were frank with Ryan and Emilie Matthias on the reality of cancer treatment. So, his mother knew what was going to happen:

It's not these beautiful commercials with these kids with bald heads that smile and everyone is cured. They were honest that chemo is poison, radiation, burns.

The other way is to cut it. You choose and make difficult decisions regarding the poisoning, burning, and size of your child.

These are things no one should have to do. It should not be the way we treat our children.

The cancer is horrible. This kid is great and he died of cancer.

Since Garrett's death on July 6, the family has received help from neighbors, friends and family. The obituary also refers to a GoFundMe page for the Matthias family.

Garrett's daycare found five inflatable houses for his funeral. The Saturday memorial and celebration will have snow cones, other carnival fares and fireworks.

The reality for Garrett and so many other children is pediatric cancer is an ugly and nasty beast that leaves a path of destruction.

For Garrett and many others before him cancer kills. Those who are lucky enough to survive endure long-term debilitating side effects and constant fear of relapse.

We will fight for a cure until no other child is stripped of his childhood, no other brother and sister loses his best friends. no other parent should bury his babies.

Garrett endured nine months of hell before losing his battle with cancer. Meanwhile, he never lost his sense of humor and loved teasing doctors and nurses.

Pillows and ephemeral clothes pinned their clothes to "hazing" trainees and new doctors, he was still a joker. Nothing surprised people like his response to "we see you later alligator":

See you later, suckas! – The big slip Garrett
