Sky: high costs of transport, rents and the Internet, the cost of construction in Dublin is in free fall

Dublin has the second highest transportation cost in the world, according to a global survey conducted in 55 major cities.

The average cost of a monthly public transport ticket to Dublin is € 114.95, according to Deutsche Bank research on 55 cities worldwide. In comparison, a monthly pbad in New York, the 5th most expensive city, costs 108.57 €.

Only London is more expensive than Dublin and is a complete headache with an average monthly cost of € 160.60 travel ticket.

The skyrocketing housing costs have seen Dublin rise to the top of the list of the most expensive cities to rent.

The capital has gone from the 18th most expensive city survey to the rental of a mid-range apartment from two bedrooms to the 8th. Between 2014 and 2019, the cost of rent increased by 23% in Dublin, from 1,466 to 1,811 euros on average.

Even these figures do not say the same thing since the Deutsche Bank survey is denominated in dollars and the euro has dropped 20% against the dollar over the last five years.

At the same time, monthly wages net of taxes in Dublin decreased by 4%, from 2,646 euros per month to 2,529 euros.

As a result, net disposable income after rents saw Dublin fall eight places from 15th to 23rd on the list.

Revenues in Dublin plunged 15% between 2014 and 2019, from 1,806 to 1,623 euros per month.

Dublin is the second most expensive broadband of the cities studied. The average cost of a month of Internet access (8 Mbps) in Dublin is 46.60 €. Only Dubai at 73.50 € costs more.

Dublin, however, was only a middle-clbad city in terms of the cost of a cappuccino (30th out of 55), a full dinner for two at an Indian restaurant (21st out of 55) and a meal in a neighborhood pub for two (17 out of 55).

The average cost of a "cheap meeting" including a taxi ride, dinner for two, non-alcoholic beverages, two movie tickets and two beers is € 106.84, the 21st most expensive market from the city.

Taxis prices are also relatively cheap in Dublin; the city is the 21st most expensive for a taxi ride and the 29th to rent a car for the day.

Dublin ranks poorly on the quality of life index, with 21 places out of the 55 cities surveyed, from 22nd to 43rd place.

The city offering the best quality of life is Zurich in Switzerland, followed by Wellington in New Zealand, Copenhagen in Denmark and Edinburgh in Scotland.

The city with the highest monthly salary is San Francisco, the technological capital of the United States and the world, where after-tax net income has increased 88% in five years, from 3,115 euros in 2014 to 5,858 euros . by the continuous technological boom of the city.

San Francisco also has the highest net disposable income after rent payments, followed by Zurich in Switzerland, Chicago, Boston and New York.
