The group of Irish whales and dolphins claims that the animal seen swimming between bridges Sean O. Calley and Samuel Beckett is a common dolphin with short beak.

He says the dolphin was swimming hard and was probably feeding.

A spokesman for the IWDG said: "We have since received several calls from concerned members of the public asking if we should do something about it, and our answer is, as always, not to intervene. .

"If this dolphin is, as the video suggests, healthy and has been able to swim upriver to the downtown core, he should be able to swim downstream of the river."

IWDG marine mammal ecologist Clowie Russell is monitoring the situation in the area.
