STAN Lee died of lung failure after "inhaling food," as his death certificate reveals today.
The comic mogul, who died November 12 at the age of 95, suffered from respiratory and cardiac failure as well as from aspiration pneumonia.
The cause of his death was learned more than two weeks after his death and indicates heart failure and respiratory failure, reported TMZ.
His death certificate also states that he was suffering from aspiration pneumonia, which involves inhaling food, stomach acid or saliva into the lungs.
The document stated that Lee, 95, died on Monday, November 12th at 9:17 am at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
The creator of Marvel Comics was "categorical", he did not want a big public funeral, according to his company.
His family held a private ceremony behind closed doors but did not reveal any other details.

His company has set up a memorial wall on Lee's website where friends, colleagues and fans can share their thoughts, prayers and tributes.
Messages from other creators and artists will be posted on the social media pages of the star in the coming days.
The company said new memorial plans were in preparation and that it hoped to be able to provide more details soon.
"Stan's greatness makes it a monumental task," the statement said.
The retiree, who has been involved in creating superheroes, including Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk, was declared dead after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital on Monday.
Hollywood tributes related to franchise films, including Robert Downey Jr of Iron Man and Hugh Jackman, star of the movie X-Men, were hailed.

Cartoon icon, Lee was born in 1922 in New York, as a result of Romanian immigrants.
He originally called Stan Lieber, but changed his last name to become "Lee" early in his career.
Lee took his first steps into the world of comics as an office badistant, before then becoming a writer and acting editor in the late 1930s and early 1940s for Timely Comics – which later became known as Marvel Comics.
