Students from an Irish high school set themselves the goal Christmas No.1 in order to raise funds for the Crumlin's Children's Hospital and to honor a clbadmate who courageously fight against cancer.
Students of the year of transition at St Colman's College in Fermoy, County Cork, yesterday recorded their version of Bill Withers' clbadic "Lean On Me."
The 1972 clbadic song was chosen by 74-year-old transition students to show their solidarity with the ongoing battle for the health of their 15-year-old comrade.
& # 39; Lean on Me & # 39; is one of nine songs to have reached the No. 1 in the US charts for two different artists.
St Colman students are now hoping to add an Irish No.1 Christmas to this list.
With the help of teachers Sarah Barry and Claire McCarthy, the candidacy of the # 1 Christmas single in Ireland has been dubbed "ColmansStandTogether".
All proceeds from the single and its YouTube video will go to Crumlin Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.
"The goal is to raise as much money as possible for these extremely deserving causes," said music teacher Sarah Barry.
Ms. Barry said that teachers and families in the school were surprised by the enthusiasm with which Year of the Transition students had embraced the idea of the single collection of funds.
McCarthy said support for the project was a source of inspiration.
"It's great to see the students make such a huge effort in this area and we want to support them until the end," she said.
The single was recorded at school by a production team of Mark Cahill and David Geddes.
Col Colman's College Director, Veronica O. Donoghue, said that all members of the school were extremely proud of the project of the year of transition and the solidarity shown by the students with their young clbadmate and his family.
"We certainly hope the single will get the public support it deserves," she said.
The single and video will be launched on December 6 to coincide with the St Colman's awards night, one of Ireland's best-known hurling schools.
