Surprise! Facepunch is about to launch a new title – this one is very different from Rust and Garry's Mod.
Out of the sandbox and survival games, Facepunch now launches into the world of strategy games with Clatter: a "cardboard tactics game" featuring bouncing robots and mustache cubes. Players may order "Customizable Battle Robot Squads" in solo or multiplayer matches, although the game was apparently designed for the latter. The robots each have their strengths and weaknesses, and with names such as "Grabbers", "Flippers" and "Mortars", it's pretty easy to guess what they're doing.
According to the press release, there are two main match modes – the Deathmatch and the Control – that can be played on a "constantly changing card list". There is also a career mode that requires players to train their team in one season games. As if you combine Football Manager with Wall-E.
Clatter should be out on Steam soon enough – sometime in December, actually – and although the project is not as big as Rust, it could be very lethal for those strange days between Christmas and New Year's Eve. Seriously, I never know what to do with myself that week. Maybe this time, I'll go back to robots.
