Tayto chips have taken up first place in Kerrygold Butter as "the most missed" food for Irish emigrants.

According to the Diaspora Decides study, conducted by Behavior & Attitudes for Checkout magazine, 32% of Irish emigrants surveyed said they had missed "strong" chips while 18% "missed a little".

Tayto held first place for four consecutive years when he was defeated by Kerrygold in 2017.

The other Irish products on the list of the most missed by those living abroad are:

Cadbury Chocolate 31%
Barry's Tea 28%
Kerrygold butter 27%
Denny Rashers 19%
Guinness 19%

According to the survey, 48% of respondents said that Guinness was "not missed at all".

Checkout.ie's online editor, Donna Ahern, said the products that people miss most are not a surprise.

She said: "For those of us who have lived abroad or who have visited a family living abroad, the aforementioned items are still the most cited products.

"It's interesting to note that Tayto stayed in pole position for the first four years of this research.

"While Kerrygold has defeated the iconic crisp last year to impose, Tayto has regained his number one position this year, so he remains at the forefront of the minds of expats when Irish nostalgia food is installed. "

She added, "The big tea brands are this year's big surprise." Barry stands out from Lyon with 11% of the most missing tea brands.

"This contrasts sharply with last year when both brands were neck and neck."
