From the beginning, I wish to remove the iPad Mini 4 from the list for several reasons. This is the only current iPad that does not support the Pencil Pencil. It is powered by a processor released in 2014 and it is more expensive than the iPad. I would not buy it personally.
Do not be fooled by my word, because a poll conducted on our YouTube about a week ago found that out of nearly 10,000 people, only 3% thought the iPad Mini 4 was the best choice. A considerable percentage of them felt that the iPad Pro 2018 was the best choice, even though it was the most expensive.
The design of the new iPad Pro is at the opposite of the old iPad. The edges are now completely flat compared to the old chamfered and rounded edges, which made it a bit difficult to press the buttons. The new buttons are very nice and it will take a little time to get used to it, because the curved shape seems more natural to hold in the hand.
At the back, the camera is a little larger than other iPads, which gives the impression that it contains a serious imaging sensor.
The smart connector has been moved and expanded on the new iPad Pro, which also includes a series of internal magnets, which allows it to securely hold the covers and cases with more than the smart connector and the front panel. The 9.7-inch iPad does not have a smart connector and users will need to use Bluetooth for keyboards.
Personally, I love the front panel black of the new iPad Pro, which hides the TrueDepth sensor array that brings Face ID to the iPad for the very first time. The best part is that Face ID, it works in any orientation, even upside down.
The white facade of the old iPad really brings out the glbades, especially the huge glbades of the 9.7-inch iPad. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro had thinner edges on the sides, in fact, even thinner than those of the 11-inch iPad Pro, but fortunately the upper and lower edges have now gone thanks to the new Touch ID ditch model, which makes it much easier to use the iPad Pro in landscape mode.
This change alone makes the new iPad Pro really stand out from the crowd. To put it simply, every old iPad just looks old in comparison, just like the iPhone X compared to the iPhone 8.
Some might hate the fact that Touch ID is gone, but if you have an iPhone X or a newer iPhone, you're already used to new gestures and it really makes it much faster and easier to navigate compared to older iPads. And I love having the alarm clock function on the new iPad.
Ports, pencils and sounds
Unfortunately, the new iPad Pro is the first iPad model to get rid of the headphone jack, which helps to make it thinner than the iPad and the old iPad Pro, but some will probably not think that it worth the exclusion.
The iPad Pro 2018 is also the first iPad to abandon the old Lightning port for a USB-C port. This gives it many advantages in terms of connectivity, and it will only improve with iOS 13 next year, but what I prefer in the new port, is that you can use your MacBook's charger to charge the new iPad Pro. noticed how much more convenient it is to load it.
Even better, the iPad Pro 2018 finally comes with a 18-watt fast charger compared to the old 12-watt iPad adapter, so it's recharging a little faster.
Apple has also redesigned the Apple pencil with a brand new charging system. Simply bring it closer to the new iPad Pro Apple Pencil Connector, and it magnetically puts itself in place, couples and automatically recharges wirelessly. There is no need to plug it into a Lightning port, unlike the old Pencil Pencil pencil. As a result, only the new iPad Pro supports it.
By comparing the pencils themselves, the new pencil is larger and has a matte finish, and it simply feels better in the hand than the old version. It also has a new double-tap feature that allows you to instantly switch between tools.
The new, improved Apple pencil is something you do not like if you use an older iPad.
The 9.7-inch iPad also has much worse speakers than the two models of iPad Pro, which have speaker grilles at both the top and bottom, giving you a sound stereo. There is not much difference in sound quality between the iPad Pro, but they sound much better than the 9.7-inch iPad.
Screens
Both iPad Pro models have a laminated display, which increases the contrast and colors, and gives the impression that the display is just under the glbad. With an unplasticized screen, like on the 9.7-inch iPad, there is a noticeable gap between the glbad and the screen, which has some drawbacks.
First, some parts of the screen are hidden when viewed from an extremely distracting angle, and the gap also makes it less sturdy compared to a laminated screen. Not only that, but you can see the gap when you use the apple pencil, which makes it harder to draw if you look at the display from an angle.
Turning now to display technology, both iPad Pro support True Tone, the wide range of P3 colors and have an anti-reflective coating that makes all the difference in terms of reflection and glare.
However, the biggest problem is the ProMotion technology used on iPad Pro. In principle, it allows the display to dynamically adjust the refresh rate between 24 and 120 hertz depending on the content you are viewing. This makes navigation incredibly smooth and also conserves the battery by matching the lower capture rate of movies, shows and videos.
Not only that, but ProMotion helps to significantly reduce the latency of the Pencil Pencil to 20 ms. Drawing on an iPad Pro with ProMotion is therefore more natural than the 9.7-inch iPad.
Performance
The 9.7-inch iPad has only 2GB of RAM, compared to 4GB for iPad Pro, which really makes it easier to multitask. If you get the iPad Pro 2018 1 terabyte model, you have 6 GB of RAM even more important.
Spotted in Geekbench 4, the new iPad Pro gets triple the iPad's multi-core score, and almost double the score of the iPad's 10.5-inch Pro.
These differences are pretty huge, but if you consider the graphics performance, there is no comparison possible. The new iPad Pro is over three times more powerful, with an iPad Pro 10.5 inches at 10,000 points behind.
We then tested the iPads with the reference Antutu. We found that the 9.7-inch iPad was not too far from the 10.5-inch Pro, but that the iPad Pro 11-inch swept the ground completely, even setting a record in the reference.
Finally, we tested a more realistic test by exporting a one minute HEVC 4K video. We see here that the new iPad Pro's performance is also shining in the real world, finishing twice as fast as the 10.5-inch Pro and almost three times faster than the 9.7-inch iPad.
Photography
Finally, let's talk about cameras. The 9.7-inch iPad contains the same camera as the iPhone 6. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro incorporates the iPhone 7's camera, and the new 11-inch iPad Pro contains a slightly modified version of the iPhone's big iPhone XS, dropping image stabilization and one of the elements of the lens.
The best thing about the new iPad Pro is that it offers the same Portrait Selfie mode and the same Animoji features as the iPhone XS, but unfortunately you can not take portraits on the back of the camera, unlike the iPhone XR.
Comparing photos between iPad models, this first photo shows that the new iPad Pro has an exceptional level of detail and really highlights the colors of the plant compared to the other two.
We see the same thing in this picture. The 11-inch iPad Pro looks extremely detailed, which makes the iPad blurry in comparison. The new iPad Pro also does a better job of showing the true white balance compared to the other two.
On this wide shot, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro is actually the worst because it is exposed quite darkly. The two old iPads just look dark and gloomy. The new iPad Pro is able to bring out the colors and make them close to real life.
Now that we are moving forward, we are seeing the biggest differences, since the 9.7-inch iPad comes with a 1.2-megapixel selfie camera. As you can see, the details are just not there. Everything is developed because of the small sensor and the larger aperture. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro receives a 7 megapixel sensor, which makes the background a little blurry, making the selfie more aesthetic.
The 11-inch iPad Pro goes into selfie portrait mode, which, combined with a high level of detail, gives this selfie an infinitely better appearance than other iPads.
Based on all these photos, it is clear that the 11-inch iPad Pro has far the best camera.
In summary
So, now that you know the differences between all these iPads, which one should you buy?
Well, I also scratch the iPad Pro by 10.5 inches.
Why? Because the new iPad Pro is the first of its kind. It has been completely redesigned and includes many firsts like the first rounded screen, the first iPad with Face ID, the first iPad to support the new Apple Pencil, the first iPad with USB-C and the first iPad to contain a chip ultra powerful 7 nm.
That said, I would not recommend anyone to buy the iPad Pro from 10.5 inches above the 11-inch model, unless you can use it at an incredibly low price, preferably between $ 350 and $ 400.
Even at that time, I would rather just spend the extra money and have the best of the best, an iPad Pro to the test of time for years. It also makes no sense to buy the old Apple Pencil, knowing that anyway, the future iPad Pro will probably use the new Apple Pencil.
What if you do not need the best of the best? What if you just want an occasional iPad to play a casual game or sketch with Apple Pencil? Or if you are not even interested in the pencil Apple? So, definitely buy the 9.7 inch iPad instead.
Of course the new iPad Pro will do everything better, but if you do not use it often, or if you do not need extra performance, better display and improvements made to Apple Pencil, then it makes no sense to spend $ 800 or more on the new iPad Pro.
In addition, if you are not in a hurry, wait four months before the month of March. It's at this point that Apple is generally updating the 9.7-inch iPad budget and that it will likely be redesigned to fit the look of the new iPad Pro. There is no guarantee that he will get a face ID or badistance for the new Apple pencil, but improvements will definitely be made.
