During a recent trip to Taiwan, we tested CarPlay and Android Auto, the two software solutions from Apple and Google to connect the smartphone to car infotainment system. We tested them on an Audi S4 V6T, one of the many cars that support both platforms. The approach of both companies is different, but Android Auto and CarPlay allow you to safely control satellite navigation and multimedia playback better than you can do with the car's built-in system. But the functions remain limited, because car manufacturers – for privacy and security – do not share with the developers any other sensitive data of the vehicle.
