Charm and mystery: Babylonians today at the spectacle of the eclipse

[ad_1]

The longest lunar eclipse of the century held millions of people with eyes in the sky from Europe to Africa, to India (in the country where all is expressed in all its magic for one hour, 42 minutes and 56 seconds). A red moon that has revived the myths that times have transmitted by hitting the imagination and releasing fears. All peoples of the past did not seek the darkness of the star with the same spirit. In the ancient world, the Babylonians were the most accurate witnesses, though during the phenomenon they played the sacred tympanum and sang because it had to end quickly. Their priests left us precise traces of fifty lunar eclipses of 700 BC. up to 50 a. C. The Chinese, however, while being attentive to eclipses of the Sun, neglected until 400 AD. those of the Moon do not consider them important for astrology. However they believed that it was a dragon eating the moon and organizing noisy ceremonies to chase it away. Curiously, the Egyptians, who adored the Sun, left us no sign of interest in lunar eclipses.

The tragic visions, however, accompanied the Roman soldiers who interpreted the obscuration as a harbinger of death, making every effort to return the paradise the goddess. The causes, however, have been studied for centuries and just in Rome in the second century BC. Consul Gaius Sulpicius Gallus informed people hesitantly that it was not a question of magic but of an explainable natural event.
But there was not only fear in fateful nights. In Tahiti, we thought of an expression of love: the conjunction of the Sun and the Moon. And still today some Eskimos tribes consider it a sign of divine benevolence. In Hindu traditions related to the Red Moon, there are also suggestions today that invite people not to eat and drink until the disc returns to its original image and to the women who are waiting to stay at home. So many stories that the charm or mystery of the moon continues to generate. And maybe they will disappear only when the first lunar colony around 2025 permanently hosts the first terrestrial.
