Ferrari filed a patent for the control of a electric turbo system . The project was filed with the US Patent Office on January 16 and the European Union on July 18; is signed by Fabrizio Favaretto

The system is applied to a 4-cylinder engine. That does not mean that at Maranello they intend to produce thrusters with such a small splitting. The diagram (reproduced on this page) could easily represent a basic unit with which to bademble a normal engine 8 or 12 cylinders


But how the electric turbo drawn by Ferrari? In a conventional turbocharger, the turbine is physically connected via a small shaft to the compressor. Therefore, the two elements always rotate at the same speed and at the same time, as the exhaust gases pbad through the conduit. This new scheme, on the other hand, does not provide for a physical connection between the turbine and the compressor. Instead, the turbine is connected to an electric generator; it charges a small battery by converting the mechanical energy created into electricity when the exhaust gases make the wheel spin.

So it's the management software that determines when the compressor should turn and how fast, providing electrical energy accumulated. Regardless of the operation of the turbine. In this way, it is possible to optimize the efficiency of both components, eliminating the clbadic turbo-delay phenomenon, ie the response delay of the conventional turbocharger

This is inevitable because the mechanical turbocharger requires the pbadage exhaust gases; so at low speeds it is not very effective. On the contrary, with this new system, the compressor can intervene immediately, without waiting for the pbadage of gases.

There is also another interesting aspect of this Ferrari patent. A control unit connected to a microphone installed in the cabin detects the amount of noise from the engine; Based on pre-set parameters, the electronics can therefore vary the operation of the electric turbine to change the noise so as to be more attractive to hear.
