VERONA – The Audi Q3 is renewed. No revolution, but many substantial innovations, the result of a project to give life to the second generation of compact SUV, focusing on size (cultivated), comfort (improved) and technologies (put up to date). With regard to the engine, however, the range includes, at least in the initial phase, three gasoline engines and one diesel engine.
Already defined in great detail, the new Q3 will arrive in November at dealerships, from the Hungarian Gyor factory, where it will be built on the basis of the Mqb modular platform. To define the rates, probably not too far from the current (from 31,000 to 45,000 euros), but made rather flexible by the large number of options available in the house Audi.
Aesthetically the second generation Q3 emphasizes the strict respect of the brand's family feeling. That said, there are not some details revisited by the new design (grille, air intakes, wheel arches, lights, taillights, interior). Above all, the dimensions have changed: the new Q3 has grown 97 mm in length and 18 in width (4,485 and 1,849 meters in new sizes), while the roof has been slightly lowered (-5 mm): a line sporty, which offers a significant appeal, also highlighted by alloy wheels of new design, available in sizes 17 and 19 inches (even 20, on request, on high-end versions).
The pursuit of sportiness (accentuated in the S Line configuration) should not detract from space and comfort. If anything, the opposite, given that the wheelbase has been lengthened by 78 mm (2,681 meters). If that were not enough, the German House has planned that on the new Q3, the rear seat (divided into 40/20/40 configuration) will be sliding and adjustable in 7 inclinations. Still in terms of interior space, it should be noted that the luggage compartment, divided on three levels, offers a space oscillating between 530 and 675 liters with the rear seats in standard position, 1,520 liters with the back folded.
The new Audi Q3 will be available in three different body lines, in 11 body colors (also two-tone) and leather and alcantara interior trim. Disappearance of all badog instrumentation, digital rabies. As for high-end models, the new Q3 will have a digital badpit and an MMI touch screen, available in sizes ranging from 8.8 to 10.2 inches. The display of the instrumentation will be standard for all configurations, while the additional functions of the virtual badpit will be optional. High-end infotainment solutions will connect the car to the outside world and new auxiliary systems will provide badistance for parking, city driving and commuting. There will also be the Traffic Jam Assist for automated driving in traffic and the pre-sense with automatic emergency braking.
The engines expected, as mentioned, are four: three petrol and one diesel, with powers of 150 to 230 horsepower. All are 4-cylinder Euro6d-Temp certified direct injection turbo engines. Particularly interesting, even gasoline engines have a particulate filter. Plus: the entry level of 150 hp can cut the operation of 2 cylinders thanks to the on-demand system, useful for reducing consumption and emissions
The first new generation of Q3 to arrive on the market will therefore be the Q3 35 TFSI with 1.5 engine of 150 hp and 250 Nm; the Q3 40 TFSI with the 2.0 of 190 hp and 320 Nm; the Q3 45 TFSI with the same engine 2.0 but with a high power at 230 hp and 350 Nm. Simultaneously the Q3 35 TDI will arrive with the engine 2.0 TDI 150 hp and 340 Nm. In a future yet to be defined will come a more powerful diesel , the 2.0 TDI with 190 hp. Hybrid solutions can not be ruled out, given the investments and research and development plans announced by Ingolstadt
At the time of launch the basic version of the new Q3 of 1.5 TSI will only be available when it is available. with front wheel drive and S-tronic dual clutch 7-speed gearbox, which will later be added to the manual. The 2.0 TFSI in both power variants will adopt the four-wheel drive and the S-tronic automatic transmission. The diesel will debut in version 4 with manual transmission, which will later be joined by S-tronic front-wheel drive.
Performance, consumption, emissions and prices have not yet been announced by the Audi. On the contrary, it is certain that on request it will be possible to have the Audi Drive Select, thanks to which it will be possible to adapt driving to various modes (Auto, Comfort, Dynamic, Offroad , Efficiency, Individual) able to affect accelerator reactions, steering, S-tronic gearbox, dampers. Among the options, there is also the automatic braking system to use along the most inaccessible descents, perhaps on off-road roads. In this regard, the Board is mindful that "Suv Q3 will be, like its predecessor, a versatile vehicle, suitable for both city, highway and off – road driving". Given the "precedents", we do not believe that there is reason to doubt
