The Horoscope app steals data from your smartphone, on risk accounts

A great discovery made by ESET researchers, who have identified 29 app present on the Google Play platform containing dangerous Trojans to steal your personal data, even bank. Applications onhoroscope most present on this blacklist.

Trojan Application on the Play Store

These applications, which ran continuously from August to October 2018, were installed by nearly 30,000 users, before being removed from Google Play. Not just the horoscope, but also the app for battery managers and device cleaners. The desire to know the future, however, is the master and therefore the divinatory appeal of the application, and with it the malware that wants to nibble information on your device.

These malicious apps have been loaded with the names and terms of most different developers, but the similarities code and a shared C & C server suggest that they are the work of a single user or group. Here is an excerpt published by researchers: thanks to very complex features, they can borrow the identity of any application installed on a compromised device, intercept call logs, redirect text messages and download other apps.

Even more useful than the warning, suggestions to avoid dangers communicated by the same ESET:

Download only apps from Google Play this does not guarantee that the application is not harmful, but apps like these are much more common in third-party app stores, where they are rarely removed once discovered, unlike Google Play.

Be sure to check the number of downloads, app ratings, and review content before you download apps from Google Play.

Pay attention to permissions granted to installed applications
