Wind Tre collaborates on the realization of the 5GCITY project in Italy

The company, engaged in the development of fifth generation services, actively participates in the European program involving public and private partners

Wind Tre, a company led by Jeffrey Hedberg, contributes to the realization in Italy of the 5GCITY project, funded by the European Commission in the framework of Horizon2020, the European Framework Program for Research and Innovation.

5GCITY is an initiative coordinated by the Spanish research center i2CAT, with the aim of creating an open platform, which extends the centralized cloud model to support the development of solutions dedicated to smart cities. The costs and functionality of the networks are optimized through the new neutral host model, with which the infrastructure owner offers "portions" (slices) of network capacity to the various 5G service providers possible. Through synergistic work, which also involves public administrations and local businesses, it is possible to create telecommunication networks with greater reuse of existing infrastructures.

Wind Tre, in particular, contributed by defining the needs of the 5G network for innovative digital services related to the use of multimedia content: UHD, 360 ° video, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality ( AR) and support for environmental sustainability services. Through its participation in 5GCITY, the company is contributing to the creation of an ecosystem for the dissemination of smart solutions and the development of new business opportunities.

5GCITY offers final demonstrations in the cities of Barcelona, ​​Bristol and Lucca to evaluate 5G ecosystems through specific use cases.
Lucca Comics and Games, one of the most important shows in the world, the 5GCITY Project tests solutions to meet the need for coverage and connectivity in areas with a high concentration of people.
The contribution of 5G will also be verified at other international events organized in Lucca, which will involve tens of thousands of visitors: the Lucca Summer Festival, the Photolux and the European Digital Forum.

The 5GCity program benefits from the collaboration of a consortium of eighteen partners from seven European countries, with the presence of major national companies in the field of new technologies, telecommunications and media, as well as support of public and institutional bodies.
