Jared Kushner was a White House official whose security clearance was denied

JAred Kushner would have been named as the top White House official, whose security clearance was denied last year.

Kushner's authorization was denied for reasons related to his private business interests, foreign influence and personal conduct, according to the Washington Post. This week, documents released by the House's Monitoring and Reform Committee indicated that Kushner, the president's son-in-law, was designated as "White House Official 1".

The documents describe the testimony of whistleblower Tricia Newbold, who stated that she had turned to Congress as her "last hope", telling lawmakers that she and her college had issued 25 refusals security clearances that were subsequently canceled. Newbold worked under the Republican and Democrat Presidents at the White House's staff security bureau.

The decision to overturn the decision was made by Carl Kline, a member of the political leadership who headed the office at the time of the decision.

Newbold had already been suspended without pay in January, just days after the release of a report that Kushner's authorization had been approved despite staff objections. The notice of suspension accused him of defiance of authority and failure to follow instructions.
