Blue Origin says that the freight variant it has just revealed can carry 3.6 metric tons to its destination. He is also working on another variant capable of withstanding a "climb stage rated at 6.5 tons, classified human". Although Bezos has not mentioned specific dates, the company believes it can achieve the government's goal of putting Americans back to the moon by 2024.

The Blue Moon Initiative seeks to build infrastructure on the surface of Earth's natural satellite to the point that entrepreneurs can start creating space companies. Bezos talked about the possibility of exploiting the resources there to generate energy at home because ours will soon run out. In addition, he said that the moon was a good place for manufacturing because it would take 24 times less energy to transport the materials from its surface relative to the Earth because of its lower gravity.

A few years ago, when Bezos started the project for the first time, he announced that he would start by sending a few tons of cargo to the moon to build a lunar base. "It's time to return to the moon, this time to stay," he said.
