And we have it. The quarter-final match is over and, after another dramatic evening – if not a high-level match – England has joined Sweden as the last names to complete in the last eight of our wallpapers.
0 win against Switzerland – thanks to Emil Forsberg's deflected shot halfway through the second half – it's unlikely that we'll remember too much in the annals of the World Cup, but in Moscow, the story was slightly different. Well, at least for fans of England who have been suffering for a long time.
For 120 minutes of a rather ugly show and filled with stops, play-offs, dives, recriminations and remonstrances, the game went entirely to the script. The time equalization of Colombia was almost predetermined.
Then, just as the past of England's dishonorable penalties seemed to be repeated once again, the story turned into unexplored territory. This is, after all, Gareth's New England. Jordan Pickford and Eric Dier have proven themselves and England, indeed, is able to win a penalty shootout at a World Cup.
