Nouakchott (Mauritania) – The 31st Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) began Sunday in Nouakchott (Mauritania) with the participation of the President of the Republic , of the Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali
The theme of the Summit is "Winning the fight against corruption: a sustainable path towards the transformation of Africa"
At the ceremony of opening, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz said: extremism, drugs and the proliferation of conflict zones, hence the need for a collective approach and coordinated efforts to achieve Development.
African leaders will address the thorny issue of corruption to make Africa a haven of peace, integration, and economic development.
According to African leaders, the continent is confronted with various conflicts and must favor the dialogue to resolve them, with purely African solutions. [19659002] The Western Sahara issue will also be at the center of the 31st AU Summit as it was included, for the first time, as a "separate issue" on the agenda.
Peace and security are also on the agenda of the meeting of African leaders who will discuss ways to combat radicalization and violent extremism as key factors in the terrorist threat.
