Fardowsa urges stop all violence against women

Garissa leaders and activists have called for concerted efforts to end gender-based violence, which they say remains high.

Speaking at the launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence at the Garissa Hotel, the group led by the wife of Garissa's governor, Fardowsa Osman, asked the men to take the initiative in protecting women and children from abuses committed by perpetrators who often escape slavery.

"Stand up against these abusive behaviors whenever we see them at home and at work. Everyone has the responsibility to prevent and stop violence against women and girls, "said Fardowsa.

She added that gender-based violence, particularly in the north-east of the country, is often ignored for fear of stigma in homes and communities.

She said that every human being, man or woman, has the right to a peaceful living environment and free from all forms of harbadment or violence.

"I stand here as a woman, mother, sister, wife, and first woman in the county, saddened by the fact that badual and gender-based violence continues to grow. This should not happen at all in this age, "she added.

According to the 2014 Kenya Demographic Health Survey, Garissa County has a 97% prevalence of FGM, compared with a national average of 21%.

Fardowsa urged development partners, including UNICEF, to continue their partnerships with national and county governments to end gender-based violence and empower women and girls in the country. education and the skills necessary for their prosperity.

Named Senator Falhada Iman agreed with Fardowsa and urged men to "stand up against abusive behavior when they see it happen." "We all have a role to play in ending violence against girls and women.
