Ugandan MPs demand legality of EAC passport

The application for an international pbadport for the East African Community (EAC) is a problem in Uganda after MPs have blocked it for legality and cost reasons for users.

In 2016, EAC leaders agreed to move the EAC pbadport from a regional document to an international document, with Kenya and Tanzania having launched it last year.

Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan were donated until January 2019.

On Tuesday, Uganda launched the pbadport which costs the ordinary holder about Ksh 7,187 ($ 70 or £ 55), against Ksh 4,107 for $ 40.

Deputies, including Jacob Oboth, Michael Tusiime, Waira Majegere, Anifa Kawoya and Francis Mwijukye, questioned the loyalty of some states to the community and the laws under which the ePbadport was issued.

Interior Minister Obiga Kania has promised to respond to all the concerns of next week.
