Members of the National Assembly were recalled Tuesday to meet to discuss the report on the validation of Twalib Mbarak, chairman of the Commission for Ethics and the Fight Against Corruption (EACC).
The President of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, in a note of the Gazette, invited the deputies to the special meeting to consider the report of the Departmental Commission of Justice and Legal Affairs, which discussed Friday Mr Twalib. Members are currently on hiatus.
Twalib, a former military intelligence officer, was appointed to the post last month.
If it is approved by the National Assembly, Mr. Mbarak will replace Mr. Halakhe Waqo, whose six-year non-renewable term at the head of the EACC comes to an end.
The candidate of the anti-graft Tsar is a person who has largely kept the public out.
Mr. Mbarak served in the Kenyan army from 1984 to 1999, as an infantry officer, then in the military intelligence unit until his retirement as a commanding officer.
He then joined the national intelligence services where he served until 2006.
Mr. Mbarak then served with EACC until 2010, when he joined Ken Gen's power generation company. He held the position of Safety and Integrity Manager from 2012 to today.
He trained in intelligence in Kenya, Germany, South Africa, the United States and Great Britain.
Mr. Mbarak is a graduate of the University of Nairobi, where he studied from 2004 to 2009 and holds a Master's degree in Conflict Studies and Peace from the same institution.
In addition, he is also a certified security management professional having attended training at the UK International Security Management Institute.
