The details of the best public and private universities can now be revealed.
The latest Webometrics ranking of global universities has designated the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta, Egerton, Moi and Jomo Kenyatta among the top five public universities in Kenya.
Mount Kenya, Strathmore, Catholic University of East Africa, United States International University (USIU) and Daystar are among the best private institutions.
The University of Nairobi (UoN) is the best university in East Africa and ranks eighth on the continent.
It is also among the top 1,000 universities in the world, having been ranked 990th.
The Webometrics ranking covered 11,995 universities worldwide.
MAJOR REFORMS
University Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi said the university is embarking on major reforms to improve the quality of education in order to improve its rankings in the future.
"We want to focus on researching and training our speakers in different areas to ensure that they pbad on the best skills to students," he said.
Kenyatta University (17 in Africa and 1,596 in the world), Egerton (21 in Africa and 1,881 worldwide), Moi University (22 in Africa and 1,951 worldwide) and Jomo Kenyatta (39 in Africa and 2767 globally).
Maseno ranks sixth in Kenya and ranks 81st in Africa and 4,126 in the world.
Strathmore is the best private university and the seventh best university in the country.
The Catholic University of East Africa is the second best private university and the ninth best in Kenya, followed by the USIU, which ranked 10th in the country.
Daystar University was the fourth best private university and number 11 in the country, while Mount Kenya University ranked fifth among private universities and number 13 in the country.
TOP BEST UNIVERSITIES
Last December, the top five universities were also ranked among the top universities by a ranking by University Ranking Academic Performance.
Harvard University is ranked as the best university in the world, followed by Stanford University, the Mbadachusetts Institute of Technology, Oxford University, and the University of California at Berkeley.
In Africa, the University of Cape Town is the best university after being ranked number 272 in the world.
Next are the University of the Witwatersrand (445), the University of Pretoria (449), the University of Stellenbosch (496) and the University of Kwazulu Natal (624), all originally from South Africa.
In East Africa, the University of Nairobi was ranked as the best university and the eighth in Africa, followed by Makerere University, which ranked 11th on the continent.
Webometry only measured the extent to which universities use the Internet to disseminate, transfer and exchange knowledge.
It does not give its raw data and its parameters of badysis.
