Police said that the snake (pictured above) could have taken refuge in a garden shed

A boa constrictor triggered a police alert after slipping out of a house.

People were warned not to approach the missing reptile, which reportedly went missing Wednesday night in Boston.

Police advised residents of Union Street to keep doors and windows closed and block out outdoor vents.

The snake is not poisonous, but the boa constrictors attack their prey with their fangs and press it to death, said the Lincolnshire police.

The missing snake is described as having a white tail and gray, black and brown spots.

The force stated that the snake would probably have sought refuge in a warm place, and could have taken refuge in a garden shed.

Ros Clubb, an RSPCA wildlife expert, said the snakes were "very good escape artists", able to cross small spaces.

"Any captive animal will explore if it has the opportunity," she said.

Dr. Clubb stated that it was likely that the missing boa constrictor would not have gone far and that he would be looking for a hot spot, citing cases where snakes were found wrapped around boiler pipes and even in a dishwasher.

She added that if the fleeing snake, of which she said that he was probably an adult, had been fed recently, he could do without food for two weeks, but the cold would slow him down.
