Shane Manning was taking his 3-month-old daughter into the basement of their house Bondurant Thursday, when strong winds ripped the back door of its hinges.
He was hit in the legs, but managed to get his daughter unscathed. The baby slept through the ordeal.

The rapid storm surprised many people in Bondurant by surprise
"It was surprising," said Deb Larson, who works at 1884 Coffee Co
She said that half of the city was still under a perfectly blue sky when the storm hit, she said.
Witnesses reported several funnel clouds, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado. 115 mph landed at Bondurant at 14:50, leaving a 40-yard path
Manning was in his basement when he heard the alarms sound. He rushed to the floor where his daughter was sleeping in his cradle.
"I looked out and saw a trampoline flying in my yard," he said.
Her family stayed in a hotel on Thursday night. The storm broke the windows of their house and ripped pieces of the roof and siding.

"I had no idea that it was even going to take storm," said Cameron Nilles. She left home shortly before the storm struck around 3 pm
"It looked like a dark autumn day, basically," she said. "Then I had a street and the sirens started to go out, so I looked up and there were already two tornadoes."
Jen Cox was working at Des Moines when her son called to tell him that the storm had uprooted shed.
He drilled a hole in his neighbor's house, where he destroyed a toilet and cut a line of water that flooded the basement.
Neighbor Korey Marsh is selling the house. He was supposed to close the sale next week.
The Bondurant Fire Department worked all night to coordinate cleaning efforts.
"We are trying to understand how we are going to bring things back to a state of normalcy," said Troy Harmison, deputy fire chief of the city, Friday morning.

But it will take a day or two before all construction debris and building materials can be removed.
Gov. Kim Reynolds made a tour of the tornadoes on Friday, to comfort local residents and promise them help from the state. "It's exactly what you do," said head coach Zach Pftanz: "It's only natural that our guys clean up the community."
First night of the team's football camp Thursday was canceled after the storm.

Ryan LaRue, the owner of the 1884 Coffee Company, spent the night of Thursday cooking burritos, pulled pork sandwiches, and pans.
