A court pronounced the first conviction of Colombia for the murder of a transbadual.

In the award dated December 3 and issued Monday, a judge sentenced the accused Davinson Erazo to 20 years in prison in a psychiatric facility.

He was convicted of the murder of Luis Angel Ramos, known as Anyela.

She belonged to the Colombian LGBT community and was murdered "for her identity as a woman or for reasons related to her gender identity," wrote Judge Catalina Manrique.

The murder took place last February in the city of Garzon, in southeastern Colombia.

The judge said that Erazo could not be imprisoned because of his mental disability.

Ramos, who had not yet changed her name, was first badaulted by Erazo in the hairdressing salon where she works. Erazo then killed him with a shotgun shot.

Colombia Diversa, an LGBT rights NGO, hailed this decision as historic and said it was important for the judge to recognize the victim as a woman, even though it had not changed his masculine name.

The government said last year that 758 women had been murdered in Colombia, as well as 109 LGBT people, including 36 transbadual women.
