Eritrea has appointed its first ambbadador to neighboring Ethiopia in two decades, the government said on Saturday, as former enemies continued their rapprochement.
The job was entrusted to Semere Russom, current Minister of Education of Eritrea and former ambbadador to the United States, said on Twitter Minister of Information, Yemane Meskel.

Since the signing of an agreement on July 9 in Asmara to restore relations, Eritrean and Ethiopian leaders have swept swiftly two decades of hostility since the outbreak of conflict between the two neighbors of the Horn of Africa in 1998.
On Thursday, Ethiopia appointed Redwan Hussien, former Ethiopian ambbadador to Ireland, to become the Addis Ababa representative in Asmara.
The rapprochement was triggered by the inauguration in April of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who announced that he wanted to implement a peace agreement that ended the war.
The two leaders visited and Isaias reopened this week the embbady of his country in Addis Ababa.
