Forecast: Thunderstorms expected in the region by mid-week | weather

Thunderstorms are expected to develop in the Council Bluffs-Omaha area by mid-week, forecasters said, and high temperatures are expected to remain in the 80s throughout the week.

The National Weather Service's office in Valley, Nebraska areas is expected to total about 1 inch of rain by Thursday.

The highest of today in the region will be in the low 80s.

Forecasters said the storms on Wednesday and perhaps Thursday could become severe.

Last Friday, Eppley Airfield of Omaha reported 0.40 inches of rain, leaving Eppley with 1.40 inches for the month and 0.33 inches below normal for mid-July.

The coming forecast according to the meteorological service includes:

Today: Partially sunny, with a high near 83. Wind East of 3 to 6 mph.

Tonight: Has 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 pm Cloudy with a minimum of 67. Wind is about 6 mph

Wednesday: 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a maximum around 83. Wind southeast 6 to 8 mph. New showers are possible between a quarter and a half inch

Wednesday evening: Possibility of showers and thunderstorms, especially before 1 pm. New rain between a quarter and a half inch possible

Thursday: Rather sunny, with a maximum close to 87.

Thursday evening: A slight risk of rain and storms. Partly cloudy, with a minimum around 67.

Friday: Sunny, with a high close to 85.

Friday evening: Roughly clear, with a minimum around 66.

Saturday: Sunny, with a maximum near 86.
