The Ministry of Tourism has added well-dressed and bady Ugandan women to the list of tourism products aimed at attracting tourists.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tourism, Mr. Godfrey Kiwanda, announced Tuesday the launch of a beauty contest called "Miss Curvy Uganda" for bady and seductive women. The finalists will be selected in June.

"We naturally have beautiful women who are amazing to watch. Why do not we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry? Kiwanda wondered, referring to "a sample" of beautiful women at Tuesday's press conference.

The beauty queens dressed in elegant and revealing clothes were constantly moving to the edge of Mestil's pool as they took pictures with event organizers, including Mr. Kiwanda.

Tourism is one of the main sources of foreign exchange for Uganda and the country reported last year 1.4 billion dollars (5 billion shillings) to the sector, according to government statistics.

INCREASE INCOME

Most tourists visit Uganda to visit national parks and discover various wildlife species such as gorillas, birds and other animals. They also like to see the Nile, the crater lakes and the mountains, among others.

Ms. Ann Mungoma, the main organizer of the beauty contest, is optimistic that when these ladies display their prizes, it will enhance the visibility and appreciation of the Ugandan people.

"Miss Curvy is an event that will highlight the endowment of the real African woman. It's an exceptional event that will see young women showing off their beautiful curves and their wits, "Ms. Mungoma said. Only people aged 18 and under 35 are eligible, the organizers said.

Asked if the parade did not offend the conservative culture of Ugandan society, Mr. Kiwanda said that Uganda has long appreciated smaller and full-bodied women as a characteristic of beauty and that the Curved parade was only another campaign aimed at appreciating beauty in diversity.

Ms. Mungoma said that since most historical reenactments celebrate the leanness and pretty faces that constitute a more Western means of defining beauty, most African women are uniquely constructed, which makes them no less attractive.

IDOLIZING WOMEN

As part of this campaign, officials from the Ministry of Tourism will tell stories about the different forms and curves of Ugandan beauties, as well as the cultures that will be presented by the candidates as part of the Tulambule (explore) campaign.
