Kenya has sought the UN Security Council's intervention in the dispute over maritime borders with Somalia.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres reportedly said informally that the 15-member UN Security Council dispute was a possible threat to peace and stability. In the region.
"Two weeks ago, the UN Secretary General to the Security Council declared that the problem (maritime border conflict) posed a potential threat to regional peace and security," said the Secretary of State's Cabinet. Foreign Affairs, Monica Juma.
Kenya believes that if Somalia were at ease, the problem would have consequences across the continent, as it would encourage southern countries to negotiate their own borders.

According to Nairobi, this will affect Kenya against Tanzania, Tanzania against Mozambique and Mozambique against South Africa if the horizontal rule were to apply.
Kenya is worried about losing 26% of its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which covers about 51,105 square kilometers, as well as 85% or 95,320 square kilometers of continental shelf beyond the 200 nautical mile EEZ. and also access to international waters.
"Kenya's position on this issue of serious diplomatic interest and security concerns is unequivocal. Kenya will never give up an inch of its territory. Kenya understands its historical borders and believes that Somalia understands this too, "said Dr. Juma.

The UN has been informed of the situation after escalating bad relations between Nairobi and Mogadishu, triggered by Somalia's decision to auction oil blocks in Kenya.
Following the Feb. 7 auction at the oil and gas conference in Somalia in London, Kenya protested to the Somali federal government to describe it as a provocative act of aggression Neighbor "ungrateful".

Nairobi also reacted immediately by recalling his ambbadador to Somalia on February 16, Lieutenant-General Lucas Tumbo, while ordering the Somali envoy to leave Nairobi to protest.
In 2014, Somalia sued Kenya before the International Court of Justice to demand an appropriate determination of the maritime boundary between the two countries. The decision is expected in September of this year.
However, Kenya has not only rejected the jurisdiction of the ICJ, but has also expressed concern that the decision is influenced by the fact that ICJ President Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf is a Somali national.
"Kenya rejected the jurisdiction of the court and the admissibility of the case on the grounds that the parties had signed a memorandum of understanding in 2009 on how to negotiate the dispute. However, the ICJ ignored this argument and ruled that the case was within its jurisdiction and that the case was admissible, "said Kenya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a note.
He adds; "The geopolitics of court composition play a key role in ICJ decisions, as they generally affect the way judges vote. The President of the International Court of Justice, Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf, of Somali, should be noted. "
Although Kenya has asked Somalia to withdraw the cards proposed at the auction in London, Mogadishu would have been reluctant, despite badurances that it would have been given.
On April 3, Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad met with Juma and discussed the issue. However, Mogadishu has not yet returned the minutes of the meeting to Nairobi after sending it for confirmation and signature.
