Three Kenyan "motivational speakers" have been accused of fraud in Rwanda – after a "wealth conference" that they had organized and promised "free money", they went terribly wrong.
The three men, Charles Chege Kinuthia, Rachel Matipei Nashipai and Vivian Khisa Mukhwana Mutenyo, were charged yesterday with the offense by the Rwandan prosecution.
In Kenya, Kinuthia has sometimes been seen as a high-flying, highly profitable businessman who deals with taxation, accounting and wealth creation issues. He calls himself Coach CK. He also claims to own several companies around the world and has been featured in local newspapers and on TV as an entrepreneur.
On his LinkedIn page, Kinuthia says he has a doctorate in human sciences. He says he then went to Texas, where he launched One Stop Tax Services, "a national franchise for income tax preparation headquartered in Houston."
The charge in Rwanda could result in a jail term of up to three years.
The trio is charged alongside a Rwandan, Mohamad Niyonkuru.
Prosecutors accused the trio of sending an email promising to more than 1,000 people "free money" worth $ 197 by attending a conference at the iconic convention convention center. Kigali.
On the day of the events, more than 5,000 people gathered in the center, but were blocked by no speaker.
