KRA intercepts high-end smuggled vehicles from UK: The Standard

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has intercepted two high-end vehicles in the port of Mombasa, suspected of being stolen from the UK.

According to the import documents, Range Rover Sport cars, which were the subject of an international investigation into motor vehicle crime and smuggling, were in transit to Uganda.
On May 9, 2019, customs officials from Mombasa were informed that two 20-foot containers aboard a ship going to Mombasa port were believed to be stolen vehicles from the United Kingdom. .
The containers arrived at the port on May 11, 2019 aboard MV. MSC Positano from Oman and had not been declared.

Both containers were scanned for X-ray on May 20, 2019, revealing the presence of high-end motor vehicles.
Subsequently, a multi-agency team led by customs officials undertook a verification exercise on May 28, 2019, confirming that the containers were loaded with high-end vehicles.
A multi-agency team including KRA, national security agencies, Interpol, UK authorities and other international partners are collaborating in investigations to break the union involving the smuggling of stolen high-end vehicles from the UK -United.
The governments of Kenya and the United Kingdom recently led the re-export of 12 high-end vehicles previously seized by KRA after being smuggled into the country as goods in transit through the port of Mombasa.
