KZN policeman charged after wife and brother-in-law shot in divorce court

A KwaZulu-Natal police officer was charged with murder after his wife and brother-in-law were shot dead Monday in a Durban divorce court.

Police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele told reporters in the Durban Court of First Instance that the shooting took place around 11:30.

"There was a case of divorce between the deceased and the suspect." At 11:00, the court was adjourned and just before he started again around 11:30, that's when the suspect would have fired shots at his ex-wife and brother, "said Mbele.

The dead are between 26 and 35 years old, she said.

"They both died on the scene.The suspect turned the gun on himself but did not die.He is in critical condition at the hospital.The police are still on the scene for to establish the reason for the shooting, "said Mbele. .

She confirmed that the husband "is a police officer stationed outside Durban".

"He is under police custody at the hospital and for now he will be prosecuted for double murder," said Mbele.
