Dar es Salaam. The Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) will perform a rare surgery to separate a pair of twin twins.

MNH's director of surgical services, Julieth Magandi, told reporters yesterday that the joint twins were tied to the stomach also shared a liver.

She said that the operation would be carried out either in October or November this year at the hospital.

"Our doctors have studied the nature of the case and have declared their confidence to perform the operation."

Dr. Magandi said that the hospital recently received the village twins from Vigwaza in the Coast Region

"The twins weighed two kilograms at birth, but now weigh four kilos and 640 grams."

Doctors and their 10 foreign counterparts at the University Hospital Alexandria have treated 24 difficult cases for children.

"All children who have undergone surgery are doing well, we are determined to do more surgeries to save the lives of children," she said.

It's been a year since MNH started to perform highly specialized surgeries for children. The achievement is attributed to the presence of modern operating rooms, which were built last year.
