The Ugandan president urges the Kenyan government to consider inducing wetland invaders to bribe instead of forcibly eliminating them.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni made a shocking revelation about how his government has resorted to the "corruption" of its citizens who have invaded the country's wetlands in order to settle elsewhere.

At the same time, Uganda seems to urge the Kenyan government to consider the same approach, instead of forcibly eliminating it.

President Museveni made this revelation at the opening of the conference on the blue economy Monday at Kenya's Kenyatta International Convention Center.

Money tokens

Speaking at the conference chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta,

Museveni revealed that his government was distributing bribe money to citizens in Ugandan wetlands to persuade them to leave the region to protect the watersheds.

CORRUPTION

"We are trying to corrupt our people who have invaded the wetlands to get by. Give them money, please, get out of the wet areas. It is a type of bribe that is better than brutally suppressing them. Because that will also pose other problems, because we need votes, because if it was not on the side of the votes, these people would move freely, "said the 74-year-old.

Museveni was among the 11 heads of state attending Kenya's first ocean economy summit in the country.

The presidents were part of more than 11,000 delegates who confirmed their participation in the forums, according to Foreign Minister Monica Juma.
