Tanzanian President John Magufuli reshuffled his cabinet and sworn in three new ministers on Monday, according to his office, in a reshuffle that included the dismissal of the minister's internal affairs .

Minister Mwigulu Nchemba, who headed the portfolio of internal affairs including police and homeland security, was replaced by Kangi Lugola, who had been vice minister of the environment.

Sunday's cabinet reshuffle also helped appoint new ministers responsible for water and infrastructure.

The statement did not give the reasons for the change.

Magufuli also added an additional deputy minister to the Ministry of Agriculture, appointing Omary Tebwete Mgumba to the position.

"Due to the importance of the agricultural sector, President Magufuli has decided to strengthen those who are in charge of the sector," the statement said.

Magufuli, nicknamed "The Bulldozer" for his energetic leadership style, has introduced anti-corruption measures and difficult economic reforms since taking office in November 2015, including cuts in government spending and revamping the regime fiscal and regulatory aspects of the fourth largest gold mining sector in Africa.

Critics say its cost-cutting measures and policy changes are excessive and undermine growth by stifling foreign investment in critical sectors such as mining.

Last month, the Minister of Finance predicts that economic growth will increase from 7.1% in 2017 to 7.2% this year.
