Two shepherds from Wajir County, abducted a week ago by Al-Shabaab militants, were released after five days of negotiations between two clans in Somalia.
Wajir County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara confirmed their release, saying the ranchers had arrived at Khorof Kharar on Wednesday.
The shepherds were kidnapped Thursday after having resisted paying zakat (a form of Islamic offering) to the militant group.
The unknown number of activists, who accused the shepherds of grazing their animals at the Somali border, also took six camels belonging to the shepherds.
