Chiliza succumbed to his injuries Monday night after being admitted to the hospital, while his wife and brother-in-law died on the scene.

"They both died on the scene and the suspect went back to him, but he was not dead," Mbele said earlier.

Divorce Hearing

He had been admitted to a hospital in Durban.

Sources told News24 on Monday that the magistrate – who was hearing the divorce proceedings – had to return to court after the shooting to temporarily confirm the bodies' identities.

"The case was dismissed because the husband was not satisfied with the terms of the divorce settlement," said a source who wished to remain anonymous.

"The magistrate told him (at the police officer) to take his lawyer.He later returned to court and fired seven or even eight shots .One of them was summer when he shot himself in the head. "

The couple has two children aged 2 and 11 living in Johannesburg, where their mother lives. She had come from Johannesburg for the divorce hearing.

An investigation into the deaths has been opened.
