Millions of Australian $ 50 bills in Australia have an embarrbading typographical error that has been neglected by the country's central bank before being printed and circulated.
The blunder began to be known on Thursday when a Triple M radio listener sent the station an enlarged photo of the Reserve Bank of Australia's new $ 50 A note, highlighting the word "responsibility" three times.
The Australian $ 50 currency is the most common in Australia and accounts for nearly half of the total value of the other notes used, according to the RBA.
The note was released on October 18, 2018 with new security features designed to deter counterfeiting and tactile elements for the visually impaired. She is impelled by Edith Cowan, the first woman elected to an Australian legislature from 1921 to 1924.
The typo appears in an excerpt from Cowan's first speech in front of the Western Australia parliament, which features on the $ 50 Australian bill.
The quote, which is repeated on the bank note, reads, "It is a great responsibility to be the only woman here and I want to stress the need for other women to be right here."
A spokeswoman for the RBA said in a statement sent to Reuters by e-mail that the bank "is aware of this and that the spelling will be corrected at the next printing".
In its latest annual report, the Bank said its banknote printing subsidiary had delivered 227 million Australian bank notes in 2017/18, including about 184 million new Series A notes of 50 USD.
The RBA did not immediately respond to questions about the exact number of new notes in circulation and their eventual withdrawal due to a misspelling.
