The Embbady of the United States now accepts new banknotes

In a tweet Wednesday, the embbady banned Kenyans from making payments with the new generation currency, arguing that it needed to put in place new ticket acceptance procedures.
"The Kenyan government has introduced a new currency with plans to withdraw all old currencies from circulation by 1 October 2019. We are currently developing procedures to accept the new Kenyan shillings.
"Until these procedures are in place, consular candidates can only pay for services using old Kenyan shillings. You can also continue to pay by credit card, "said Wednesday the Embbady on his Twitter account.
However, in a tweet Wednesday, the Embbady announced that the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) had provided him with equipment upgrades and the necessary training to accept the new currency.
"After coordinating with the Central Bank of Kenya, the US embbady received upgrades of equipment and training to accept the new Kenyan currency. We now accept the new currency as well as the old currency valid until 1 October 2019, "said the Embbady on its Twitter account Wednesday.
Kenya gradually began replacing the old currencies on 1 June.
Older versions of smaller denominations, however, are in circulation alongside news, but after October 1, the oldest note of 1,000 shillings will be invalid.
Banks will have to reconfigure their ATMs (ATMs), acquire new bill counters and upgrade their software to take into account the new currencies introduced on the market Saturday.
The new banknotes are smaller and have different features, hence the need to upgrade ATMs and new money counters that are found in checkout counters in order to check the amounts in cash and capture the fakes.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) reshaped the 1, 5, 10 and 20 shillings coins in December 2018 and began releasing the new 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 shillings notes in the second phase. the country's transition to the new currency.

CBK unveiled very early on the rules for the replacement of 1,000 shillings banknotes, which account for 83 percent of the 540 billion shillings in circulation, or 227 billion shillings.
The 500 notes represent 5.9%, the Sh200 (4.2%), the Sh100 (4.8%) and the Sh50 (1.9%).
Tanzania and Uganda ended last week the use of the Kenyan currency to curb the laundering of stolen money in Kenya.
The Bank of Uganda advised banks to subject all flows to increased due diligence.
