Al-Shabaab militants kidnapped three reservists from the National Police on Wednesday night in Wajir.

The three RPNs Noor Mohamed Adan, Mohamed Bushar Hussein and Mohat Salat Gedo were said to have crossed the border in the deep forests of the Gedo region, home of the al Shabaab in recent years.

The sources informed Nairobi News that the abolition took place after the militants stormed the Konton center and engaged the reservists in an exchange of fire before the latter were short of ammunition.

RELEASE ATTACKS

During the attack, the militants escaped with a motorcycle and a tuk tuk belonging to the brother of the sector chief.

Last week, national intelligence agencies warned that at least 40 militants had gone to Mandera and planned to launch retaliatory attacks on Kenyan soil.

The militants would be hiding in Lafey, Mandera County, with a mission to carry out reprisal attacks following the death of one of them in Dawaduba last week.

EXPLOSIVE DEVICE

"We are aware of a revenge project, but I challenge them to come, we are ready to receive them," said Jeremiah Kosiom, commander of the Mandera County Police.

On Saturday, seven Kenyan police officers were killed by the explosion of a vehicle during a patrol near the Somali border, police sources said.

The officers had left their base at Camp Khorof Harar and were heading to a place where a police reservist had been killed and three others kidnapped by suspected militants at Konton Center, Wajir East.
