The average follow-up period was 21.8 months (range 12 to 68 months). There was no difference in age, bad, body mbad index or duration of preoperative symptoms. The average pain score at preoperative EVA was 5.8 for non-smokers and 5.3 for smokers.

VAS postoperative pain scores improved to 1.4 in both groups. Clinical and radiological measurements showed no significant change after the operation. However, in the non-smoking group, the complication of the wound was 2 cases, the delayed healing was 1 case and the superficial necrosis was 1. Radiological findings of smokers were not different from non-smokers in the short term, but complications were more common in smokers.
