It has been argued that smokers are more likely to die from traffic accidents than nonsmokers. Recently, researchers at Tohoku University have studied the correlation between smoking and road accidents.
We conducted a survey of 97,000 adults and 40-79 year olds who had been screened in Ibaraki prefecture in 1993.
They followed the cause of death of more than 96,000 smokers which could be followed.
As a result, men who smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day are more likely to have a risk of a traffic accident than non-smokers 1, 54 times bigger.
Former smokers and smokers under the age of 20 are also at a higher risk of traffic accidents than nonsmokers. "If a smoker is a driver, it can lead to an accident by burning a cigarette or dropping a cigarette," said Professor Aidu Ahn, who led the study.
"Nicotine addiction is stressful if you can not smoke," he says, "I have nervous emotions affecting driving, heart disease and respiratory illness caused by smoking."
I have also made a claim. "We must also consider the measures against smoking while driving."
