LAKE FOREST, Calif .– Three weeks after a man in Lake Forest received his second dose of Pfizer vaccination, he received a call no one wants to hear from the Orange County Health Unit: He tested positive for the coronavirus.
Gary Michael, a resident of Lake Forest, assumed he was immune from the virus. He learned he was wrong.
“They told me yes, I am positive for the coronavirus,” Michael told media. She was advised to quarantine while they went through her litany of symptoms.
It is not known which strain of coronavirus he tested. Michael says his girlfriend tested positive on January 23, less than a week after receiving her second dose of the vaccine.
Michael received his first dose on December 28 and his second on January 18, but was exposed five days after his second injection, he reported. He was tested after visiting Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for an independent medical reason.
Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the Pfizer vaccine is only 95% effective, it is not known what would later cause 5% to be infected with the virus. According to Michael, his symptoms are minor, according to a report from Mercury News.
Scientists believe that optimal immunity against the COVID-19 vaccination comes two to three weeks after receiving the second dose, according to OC Health Care. This would have put Michael in the “still vulnerable” category to the coronavirus at the time he was exposed.
The Orange County Health Care Agency continues to advise all residents, vaccinated and unvaccinated, to wash their hands frequently, wear a mask, practice physical distancing outside the home, and avoid reunite with people outside your family circle.
