Amphibians and reptiles can elicit strong emotional responses in people – from fear to sheer awe – but experts say these creatures play an important role in the environment and are something to admire.
“Snakes, turtles and more, A new event at the Glen Preserve at Lake Metroparks Penitentiary, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on September 19, and will feature live reptiles and amphibians, information and activity stations and help to reveal what makes amphibians and reptiles so special, according to a press release.
This event is free for all ages and registration is not required.
In addition to the event programs, train rides operated by the Lake Shore Live Steamers will be available from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting. For safety reasons, children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Other activities to enjoy at the Glen Penitentiary Reserve include: hiking over 13 km of scenic trails, interacting with nature in Nature Play, a wild outdoor play area for children, exploring the gardens of butterflies or enjoy a picnic.
Visitors can also discover the secrets of the life cycles of the wildlife found in fields, wetlands and forests in the Nature Center’s new interactive exhibit, or shop at The Nature Store.
The Glen Penitentiary Reserve is located at 8668 Kirtland-Chardon Road in Kirtland.
